Tools and References for Your Job Search
After having honed in on your professional goal and analysed the skills you possess (including improving the ones you recognised were lacking), you find yourself needing to tackle your entry into the world of work.
How and to whom do you present yourself?
There are many ways to present one’s candidacy.
The “direct” methods involve of sending your CV to companies or responding to vacancies that you find posted on the various websites dedicated to helping supply meet demand; by sending in these applications you can be contacted by the company itself to do an introductory interview and continue with the selection process.
Another direct method is to use social media channels: creating and managing your own LinkedIn profile is a valid way to present your candidacy; furthermore it is useful not just so that companies that interest you can find you, but also to independently research companies, and information on the pertinent professional fields and that are published and updated daily. Among social networks, LinkedIn can be used not only for these purposes, but it is also very useful to follow the pages of companies and employment agencies that often use social media channels to communicate vacancies and searches, which are often urgent and compatible with your goals.
Through the channels mentioned so far, you can learn about Recruitment Days, selection days organised by companies or other entities in collaboration with institutions and/or companies: on these occasions you can hand your CV directly to the companies present, and often it is possible to have an introductory or job interview at the same time. Porta Futuro Lazio periodically organises free events to help job-seekers meet employers, like Recruitment Days, but also Spokesperson Days and Career Days.
We also suggest using your personal networks when in the process of searching for a job, because letting friends and relatives know that you are looking for work is another way to set in motion an additional search channel. In fact, you can learn about open positions in companies that you might not have considered, or get information about announcements that you hadn’t noticed during your search.
The “mediated” forms of job search, on the other hand, involve contacting an intermediary at an institution dedicated to job searches, who will take charge, in various ways, of your application by setting up a profile for you and checking the availability of job offers from companies in the same database.
Those entities can be public, like for example employment centres, or private, like the aforementioned employment agencies. We suggest doing a search for both types of entity in your area and also using these channels.
As regards the Lazio region, we recommend frequently checking the Spazio Lavoro website.
Other sites we recommend consulting are, for example, the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies, Clic Lavoro, and ANPAL.
For the sake of completeness, we should also include another way that it is possible to enter a selection process, namely the competitive method.
The announcements of competitions for public jobs can be found in the Official Gazette, in the competition section, and are simultaneously posted on job portals, in newspapers and periodicals that cover work, and the websites of the same bodies that issued the announcement.
We would like to remind you that Porta Futuro Lazio regularly offers free training on how to actively search for jobs and the tools that can help, such as the use of social media and preparing for job interviews. For more information on our services, contact your local office.
